How to make Biggar Boerie Stew

This will show you step for step how to make a Biggar Boerie Stew.
This is a perfect winter warmer, with a great mix of pure fresh healthy foods.

Lets Starrt with Equipment

Sause pot for the Stew
Frying Pan for the Boerie
Chopping Board for the Veg

Ingrediants
  • 1.3Kg Boerewors (Please see shop to order) – collection in Biggar only
  • 2 Large Onions
  • 1 500g pack of baby potatos
  • 5 medium size carrots (cut them in half if too big)
  • 1 Can of Chopped Tommato
  • 2 Cups of water
  • Vegitable Oil – a dash

Herbs and Spcies

  • Worcestershire Sause (75ml)
  • Dash of Italian Herbs
  • Red Wine (1/2 a wine glass)
  • Salt & Pepper (to taste)
  • Beef Stock (1 cube)
  • Vegitable Stock (1 cube)
Woes

Optional Extras

  • Smoked Paprica – a good few taps of that
  • Ground Turmeric – ver light amount

Now for the steps
  1. Get your Boerewors from the freezer, plonk it into room temperature water (only for as long as it takes you to cut the vegitables), and defrost the Boerie
    Note: the safest way to defrost is in the fridge the night before.
  2. Chop the Veg (carrots, onions, baby potatos) while the Boerie Defosts
  3. Get you onions frying in the deep Sause Pan with a bit of oil – Stir and brown but dont burn
  4. Put the Boerewors into the Frying Pan (flip it half way through) – cook 5-10 minutes until brown and cooked all the way through. but continue with the veg while this cooks
  5. Add carrots to the pot, with the Onions, keep browning the onions.
  6. Add the potatos (ensure you chop them to the same size os the carrrots)
  7. Add 2 cups of water
  8. Add the stock and all the spices…. and the Can of chopped tomatto.
  9. Add the Worcestershire Sauce (this is the not so secret ingrediance)
  10. Check you Boerewors if it is cooked through… keep cooking if needed
  11. Add the red wine to balance the Worcestershire sauce.
  12. Add Salt and Pepper to taste.

Biggar Show 2025 is near!

The 19th of July is the Biggar Show, this is going to the biggest event yet for Biggar Braai. We look forward to seeing you there. We will be having both biltong and boerie rolls. The 100g (avg) Biltong packs will be a selection of chilli and plain biltong, only a few packs for those keen to try, so limited to 1 per person. As for the Boerie Rolls (Boereworse), I am looking to double what we sold last year. We will also have lovely seletion of drinks in iced water.

We will be located at the Back Left of the grounds, near the food hall, same as last year. So looking forward to seeing you all there.

I am thrilled to share that the enticing aroma of curing biltong is filling the air! In just 4-5 days, I’ll be delivering a whopping 10kg of delicious chilli biltong to The Olive Tree in Biggar. This is the largest batch I’ve ever crafted in a single go, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Thanks to all Biggaronians and guests at the Biggar Show for making it such a good day for us. We sold everything an hour faster than I ever imagined possible. Which means I will defo need more Boerewors next year.

Biggar Braai at the Biggar Show

We are going to be at the Biggar Show 22nd July 2024 providing “perfectly cooked” Aberdeen Angus Boerewors Rolls with onions… aka Scots Boerie Roll.

If you would like to start your braais, you can use the Place an Order Page while we wait for South Larnarkshire Council to get the great tasting biltong allowed. When that is done, we can release the App which will allow you to place your orders, for Biltong and Boerewros via the App.

It soon time to put the braai on

Coming up to summer, it will soon be time to light those Fires!. If you have not gatherd yet, aka a Braai. By that time I am hoping that our App will be ready and you will have yourself access to Biggar Braai.

Initially, this is forcused only to the good people Local to Biggar as we are still sorting out deliveries at the moment. For now we would look to partner with local butchers.

There is a potential we will be partnering with a local shop in biggar, to supply stock, if you can’t wait to get your hands on a wee pack of Biltong or Droer worse – links to downloading the app will come soon.
